BUT FIRST A FEW MORE WORDS ON DOWNLOADING PODCASTS:

Podcasts deliver audio content through the Internet, which can then be downloaded and played right on your computer -- or transferred to a portable MP3 player (like an iPod) so you can listen wherever you want. We described how to do this on the "Podcasts" page but here's one more little tip for the not-so-geeky. When you right click any of our Great Moment stories and select "save target as" or "save link as" you will be asked where you want the podcast saved. We suggest selecting your "My Documents\My Music" folder. When you're ready to listen, just find that folder using "My Computer" and double click the podcast's file. It will automatically play in whatever music softwear you have set as your computer's "default" player.

Just remember, the option to download or directly listen to the stories from The Podcasts page is always available, whether you choose to subscribe (described below) or not.

SUBSCRIBING:

Now it starts to get interesting; what follows is what really makes podcasting useful.

If you liked what you heard on OneGreatMoment.com you can set up your computer to let you know when we have new stories available. Once you create this "subscription" your computer will either notify you, or automatically download, our mp3 audio podcasts every time a new Great Moment episode is published -- kind of like a digital magazine. You just need to download free podcasting "feed reader" software first, and then subscribe to our RSS "feed." (RSS actually stands for "Really Simple Syndication.") Hear are some good source sites for feed readers:

TO SUBSCRIBE RIGHT CLICK ANY ORANGE RSS ICON ON THIS PAGE USING THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS:

WINDOWS:
Internet Explorer: right-click the orange XML button and select "copy shortcut."
Firefox/Netscape/Mozilla: right-click on the orange XML button and select "copy link location"

MACINTOSH:
Internet Explorer: click and hold or control-click the orange XML button and select "copy link location"
Firefox/Netscape/Mozilla: click and hold or command-click the orange XML button and select "copy link location"
Safari: control-click the orange XML button and select "copy link to clipboard"

THEN FOR EITHER: Follow the instructions for your particular newsreader to add our feed to your subscription list. This will typically consist of pasting the link which you just copied from the orange RSS button (by right clicking and saving) into the "Add URL" box of your feedreader softwear.


Yes, it is a bit involved, and will undoubtedly simplify as Podcasting spreads, but we like to think it's worth it --not just for our stories, but for many other great subject areas as well.

And remember you can simply return to our website on your own and download individual Great Moments podcasts rather than subscribing.
